One in seven Dutch people aged 18 and above owns cryptocurrencies. This equates to 1.9 million crypto owners. In most cases, a person owns bitcoins. Most people (63%) buy cryptocurrencies with money from their current account. This is according to the Cryptocurrency Monitor, a large-scale survey by Multiscope among more than 4,500 Dutch people.
2 million cryptocurrency owners in the Netherlands
15% of the Dutch own cryptocurrencies. This corresponds to about 1.9 million Dutch people. More than a million cryptocurrency owners have been added since the last measurement in 2018. More than 70% of cryptocurrency owners are men. Furthermore, they are mostly between 18 and 34 years old, have a college or university education and have a gross monthly income between 3,500 and 5,500 euros.
Bitcoin is apparently the biggest crypto currency in the Netherlands. 9% of Dutch people aged 18 and above own the currency. This is over 1.3 million Bitcoin owners. Slightly behind are Ethereum (7%), Cardano (5%), Ripple (2%) and Dogecoin (2%).
